BIOGRAPHY
Amelia Kennedy is a British-American playwright based in Brooklyn, NY. Born and raised in London, she received her BFA from California Institute of the Arts. Amelia’s writing has been seen in ‘Performing History’ – a selection of original one person pieces curated and directed by Roger Guenveur Smith. Her full-length play ‘Ask For Bukowski At The Counter’ was workshopped in New York in 2023 under the direction of Allen Macleod. Following that, ‘I Keep Leaving Parties Early’ was a finalist for The Concord Theatricals Off Off Broadway Festival in 2025 and has been previously developed and presented at The CollectiveGenius Short Play Festival and The Tank. ‘Why Must We Pray Screaming?’ was presented at the Dramatist Guild Foundation in October 2024 under the direction of Heather Bildman, produced by HARP Theatricals, and subsequently was further developed as a part of Re/Venue at The Bechdel Project in March 2025 (artistic director: Meghan Finn). ‘Rough Poetry’ performed at The Rat in October 2025, produced by HARP Theatricals and directed by Allen MacLeod. ‘A Second Coming’ was a semi-finalist for SheNYC and premiered at Unit J in April 2026 under the direction of Nick Auer, the play is set to reprise in 2027. Other recent work includes ‘Seeing Red’ – a finalist for Red Bull Theater’s Short New Play Festival, and ‘This Is How I Love’ - a new full length play to be workshopped soon.
